About the object
Wilhelm Dürr (1815 - 1890) studied at the Art Academy in Vienna. He stayed in Rome several times. In 1843 he settled in Freiburg and married Berta Gruny. In 1847 he was a founding member of the Freiburg artists' society "Ponte Molle" based on the Roman model. In 1852 he was appointed court painter to Baden and, at an advanced age, in 1887 he moved to Munich to live with his son, also known as a painter. .
