About the object
The planks were cut and prepared in such remote locations and then sent floating downstream to the city. A fisherman can be seen in the centre, standing in his boat. Here, as in several of the photographs, the colourists have added autumnal foliage, in order to heighten interest and to lighten up the darker hues of the surrounding forest.
