About the object

The manufacturer Eduard Fauler (1819 - 1882) expanded the family's iron trade on the Dreisam in 1861 into an iron foundry. After 1848 he became a municipal councilor and from 1859 to 1871 mayor. He was a member of the Landtag and after 1871 a member of the Reichstag. The representative portrait was probably created around the time of his election as mayor.
