About the object
The Zähringen suburb, planned by district architect Christoph Arnold, was the first City expansion after the slighting of Freiburg's fortifications. He also designed the neo-classical City commandant's house, on the left in the picture, and the corner building with a tower for the Entrepreneur and Philanthropist Phillipp Merian (1773 - 1848). In the background you can see the Protestant Ludwigskirche with the neo-Romanesque crossing tower.
