Ogawa Sashichi
Tōshōgū Shrine, 1880 - 1889
About the object
From the central section of the Tōshōgū Shrine, we see the Yōmeimon Gate in the background with other nearby structures, including a stone torii gate. The shrine was built in 1617 in order to commemorate Tokugawa Ieyasu (1543–1616), the first shōgun of the Edo shogunate. This image is attributed to Ogawa Sashichi (?-1909), a Yokohama photographer who married Matsu, the daughter of photographer Kusakabe Kimbei (1841-1934).
