Christoph Daniel Schenck

These carved figures may have been part of a lamentation scene. It is conceivable that it was intended to underline the grief of another figure in a depiction. The angels are kneeling, their eyes lowered with arms held aloft. Their robes are gilded and draped in a virtuoso manner. Schenck, the sculptor of this piece, received little attention for a long time, but is particularly appreciated nowadays for his expressive small-format sculptures.
