The Virgin and Child, um 1300

About the object

The sculpture is from Endingen at the Kaiserstuhl. It is formally closely related to some contemporary sculptures of the Freiburg Minster and perhaps carved in the local stonemason's yard. The apple in the boy’s left hand, symbol of the Fall, at the same time symbolises transcending sin and redemptention.
