About the object
This bozzetto of a kneeling saint functioned as a sketch for a sculptural figure for an altarpiece. The devotional attitude of the figure probably related to an altarpiece placed between several altar sculptures. This model originates from a successor of the Italian sculptor Alessandro Algardi, who, alongside Gian Lorenzo Bernini, is considered the main representative of Roman baroque sculpture.
