The Ascension of Christ, um 1500
About the object
Christ ascends up to heaven and is partially surrounded by clouds. Sculptures of this kind were pulled up through an opening in the church vault on Ascension Day. Thus, an event that exceeds the reality of our experience was visualised in dramatic fashion.
