St Sebastian, 1470/80

About the object

The image of Sebastian we have in our minds is that of an almost completely naked young man. An older representation, still familiar to a 15th-century audience, does not show him bereft of clothing, but as an elegantly dressed person. The painting is from the parish church in Altsimonswald near Waldkirch.
