About the object

The lid of a snuff box has been decorated with the portrait of King Maximilian I Joseph of Bavaria (1756-1825). His crown is visible in the background, he himself is wearing two medals and a red sash. Maximilian was proclaimed the first King of Bavaria in Munich on 1 January 1806. This box may have been made for the occasion.
