The merchant Heinrich Buisson (d. 1884) from Freiburg is portraited here as a young man. His evenly-balanced face is framed by a winged or Gladstone collar – a high, stiff stand-up collar, particularly fashionable in the 1830s. The portrait forms a pair together with the portrait of his wife, Marie Buisson.
