Portrait-miniature

Three-quarter Length Portrait of a Capuchin Friar in Profile, 1600 - 1699

About the object

The bearded old man wearing the customary Capuchin habit seems to glow from within. Awestruck and simultaneously astonished, the monk depicted here in profile is looking to the right out of the portrait at whatever it is that has captured his attention. Every wrinkle and feature in the old man's face has been realised in fine brushstrokes.
