About the object
The King of the Underworld is looking at the reflection of the Kabuki actor, Ichikawa Danjuro VIII (1823-1854) in a mirror. The mirror is held by a demon lackey and an officer from the Underworld. Such commemorative prints were made on the occasion of the death of famous actors and were sold to grieving fans.
