Shunchō Katsukawa
Cherry blossoms viewing outing, um 1790
About the object
Three people are on an excursion to look at cherry blossoms. On the right-hand side of the print we see a courtesan accompanied by a student and a servant boy. The courtesans from the Yoshiwara red light district in Edo were not allowed to leave the quarter, which is why the excursion remains a product of the artist's imagination.
