Totoya Hokkei

New Year’s Print with Fish and a Lacquer Bowl, um 1830

About the object

This New Year's print was commissioned by a private poetry association. Such luxury prints were mostly ordered by affluent groups, which is why the production also invited famous artists, such as Hokkei and resorted to costly effects, such as metallic pigments, thick paper and embossing.
