The Autumn Moon from the series »Eight Views of Snow Scenes«, um 1830
About the object
The work was made as a "visual pun" aimed at the poem Autumn Moon, which describes the reflection of the moon in the water. The moment of parody resides in the mirror, which the woman is holding in her hand, its circular shape reminiscent of the full moon, its reflection in the water becoming the mirror image of the woman.
