Vessel
Honey container, 1950 - 1992
About the object
Large decorated honey jar with neck and stand. The Bamara people brewed beer or wine from honey. Honey was stored in the large clay vessels, but they were also used to store mead. Honey mead is drunk at festivals and ceremonies. It is said to have a germicidal effect and is therefore also used as medicine. In order to collect the honey, the nests of the aggressive, wild honeybee were fumigated.
