Rattle | Tsiitsiito
Vessel rattle, 1960 - 2001
About the object
This rattle is made of a wooden handle attached to a calabash. A piece of reed protrudes from the upper end, to which several bundles of feathers are attached. The body of the rattle is decorated with parallel lines and holes. The calabash body has been filled with seeds and crystals. Although its precise provenance is not known, the decorations on the calabash suggest that it is a tsiitsiito from the Wayapopihíwi (Guahibo) people. They are used for healing and divination.
