Reliquary
Tower reliquary, 14. Jahrhundert
About the object
This simple reliquary originates from one of Freiburg's medieval Dominican monasteries. It represents a type of display monstrance widely used in the 14th century: the relics are contained in a glass cylinder, which sits between a slender base and a lid resembling a spire. Small parchment labels describe the individual relics in the packets sewn onto a red cloth wrapping.
