Costume of the Baar, um 1870
About the object
As a means of bolstering the awareness of the people of Baden for their region, the Grand Duke commissioned Rudolf Gleichauf to make drawings of national costumes. Johann Nepomuk Heinemann subsequently made colour lithographs from these drawings. They were reproduced later in the Benedikt Winterhalter workshops in Rötenbach as reverse glass paintings. The bright colours are particularly striking.
