August von Bayer
Knight’s Table monument (wedding gift Friedrich / Luise) , um 1856
About the object
The shield of the silver statuette shows the coats of arms of Baden noble families, who were represented in the first chamber of Baden Parliament. The figurines represent strength, justice and authority as well as loyalty. Three angels hold the Baden and Prussian coats of arms respectively. The knight thus symbolises the nobility, the embodiment of his virtues and devotion to the Prince. Presumably, the statuette was a wedding gift from the landed nobility of Baden for the betrothal of the Prince Regent of Baden (from 1858 onward the Grand Duke) Friedrich to Princess Louise of Prussia in 1856.
