Anna Löbner

The Dogs, 1996

About the object

»The Dogs« belongs to Anna Löbner's group of black and white paintings made in the mid-1990s. She is interested in the question of »how to go about a kind of painting that renounces the fascination of colour«. Via this renunciation of colour and the narrative moment in the composition, Löbner's painting is reminiscent of old black and white films. »The Dogs« is one of the first paintings Löbner made using lampblack - a pigment extracted from the soot of kerosene lamps.
