About the object
In July and August 1837, Coblitz stayed in a village called Herrischried in the county of Hauenstein in the Hotzenwald. Whilst there, he painted this portrait of a Hauenstein woman with a child, which the artist dated at the bottom of the picture with a note about the village. Some of his pencil drawings have the same reference to this place.
