Ladies first: three days after the portrait of the woman from Hauenstein, the artist devoted himself to a companion piece. The man from Hauenstein is also depicted in traditional costume typical of the region: black knee breeches, white stockings, red waistcoat and pleated ruff. Does his gesture perhaps indicate that he also wants to hold the child?
