The half-length figure looks like the portrait of an adult. The grey jacket, replete with metal buttons and stand-up collar, is reminiscent of a military tunic. The face in three-quarter profile also appears less boyish on account of the hairstyle. The pretzel he is holding is also something of a mystery. Is it supposed to be a childhood attribute or does it refer perhaps to his father's occupation?
