Mittelrheinisch

The colourfully patterned tapestry was once used as a wall hanging or as a back drape for a bench. Against a dark blue background covered with parnassia tendrils, the letters S and M written in mirror-image Gothic script alternate with stylised rose petals in the central strip. The Marian monogram (S'ancta M'aria) and the roses convey the idea of Mary as the mystical rose of the Rosary prayers.
