About the object
The political unrest since the revolution of 1830 was also echoed in Germany. The handkerchief is a memento from the Hambach Festival that took place from 27th to 30th May 1832. University students and the lower middle classes demanded German unity as well as freedom and democracy. The handkerchief is edged with the busts of politicians and symbols of the German virtues.
