About the object
Stone steles were an important method in Egypt for marking borders or proclaiming royal decrees. However, the majority of steles served as grave markers and kept the memory of the deceased alive. The limestone gravestone with a semi-circular top shows the deceased in front of the god of the dead, Osiris and his sister Isis. She is offering sacrifices to the gods in the form of lotus blossoms. There are also three spherical vessels with plants on the table with the gifts. A winged sun disk has been placed above the pictorial section on the column. The inscription line, which has been partially destroyed, contains an offering formula for Osiris, First of the West, Lord of Abydos. The name of the deceased is no longer legible.
