About the object
This bulbous vessel has an offset lip and two horizontal lug handles. The entire body of the vessel is covered with wavy lines contained within vertical compartments. The lip is also decorated with a wavy band. Such vessels were used to store ointments or oils. The lugs served to suspend the vessel above the floor and protect its precious contents from vermin. This vessel was most certainly a funerary item from a Predynastic tomb in the so-called Naqade period.
