About the object

The small braided basket is decorated on the front with two stylised human figures made of wood and a cat's skull. This type of basket was carried by Naga warriors when out headhunting as a vessel in which to carry the booty. Since monkey skulls were usually used for the outer decoration, it is questionable whether the basket was made for this purpose or whether it was made for sale.
