Münsterbauhütte, Freiburg
Gargoyle: Man dressed in a belted surcoat, Mitte 14. Jahrhundert
About the object
The figure was originally affixed to a buttress of the southern nave of Freiburg Minster almost 20 m above the ground. It differs significantly from the other pseudo-gargoyles: a gutter has been recessed into it at the back; its open mouth serves as a waterspout. A copy now replaces the original in its position on the Minster.
