About the object
Is there any suggestion here that this boy would subsequently play an important role in the Baden Revolution of 1848/49? Karl Hüetlin (1806-1861) was painted here at the age of thirteen. Becoming a lawyer and the Mayor of Constance in later life, he spoke out against the Hecker uprising and, as a counter measure, initiated a citizens’ militia in 1848.
