Who might the unidentified beauty in mourning be? She gazes out of the portrait with an unmoved expression. Her dark dress is decorated with black ribbons and a brooch. A black veil covers her wavy hair, which cascades down uninhibitedly. Beneath the veil, a black silk ribbon fastens the bonnet to her head.
