About the object
Caspar Oechsle (1752-1820) was an imperial prelate and the last abbot of the imperial Salem Monastery, one of the most important and wealthy abbeys in the Lake Constance area. Joseph Bernhard Einsle (1774-1829), who worked in Constance, painted his portrait. He was a popular portrait painter to the aspiring middle classes, especially in Southern Germany.
