About the object

Ear jewellery worn by the Asmat menfolk from southwest New Guinea in what is the Indonesian part today. The ring with which the string of plant seed beads is attached to the ear, is also made of vegetable material. Normally, flexible quills were used. This and other objects were donated to the museum in 1904 by the city councillor and publisher, Hermann Herder.
