Kiyomizu Temple, Kyoto, 1860 - 1880
About the object
The Kiyomizu Temple in Kyoto is one of the famous landmarks of the city. The temple is noteworthy for its elaborate architecture, made without the use of nails. It takes its name Kiyomizu (“pure water”) from the waterfall within the complex, which runs off the nearby hills. The expression "to jump off the platform at Kiyomizu" refers to the act of performing a seemingly impossible feat.
