Portrait of Joseph Alexander Krebs III, 1864
About the object
As the son of Joseph Alexander II, Joseph Alexander III inherited both burdens and honours. It was only thanks to the dowry of his wife Sophie that he was able to settle the debts with the Lichtenthal monastery. He was the first member of the Krebs family to oversee the banking business alone. The rebellious curl on his forehead bears witness to a determined, genuine banker.
