Traveling in a seashell pulled by two dolphins, the youthful consort of the sea god is depicted in a more leisurely conveyance than her husband. On the left, it is easy to see how Goltzius uses the effect of the differently coloured clay plates: without the reticule, the background group of naiads appears bathed in hazy sea light.
