Rudolf Großmann
Hussar Ball, um 1910-1913
About the object
Hussar balls are celebrated to this day – in guard uniform and festive apparel. Rudolf Großmann captured this kind of social gathering as a motif on several occasions between 1910 and 1913 using a variety of techniques: in oils, lithography and etchings. This hand-coloured drypoint etching was created at the end of the Hussar Ball series. The entire pictorial space is taken up by the movements of the dancers, their bodies, clad in striking angular uniforms, turn in different directions, fall in one behind the other and seem to virtually dissolve into the upper pictorial space.
