Karl Krebs
Self-portrait with paintbrush and palette, um 1913
About the object
Karl Krebs was the son of the banker Eugen Krebs, who was the director of the Freiburg banking house J. A. Krebs. The self-portrait refers to its own genesis: the brush in his hand is the tool used to apply the paint to the canvas in dynamic movements. Karl died in East Prussia during World War I aged 34.
