About the object
According to legend, a father and son, who were on a pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela, were falsely accused of theft in a hostel by their host; the son, who was subsequently hanged for the alleged misdemeanour, was delivered from death by James, and upon his return, the host was himself hanged for his misdeeds. The reliefs from a winged altarpiece show the capture and execution of the host.
