Three scenes from the Life of the Virgin: Birth, Annunciation and Presentation in the Temple, um 1520
About the object
The three reliefs depict the Birth of Mary, the Annunciation and the Presentation of Christ in the Temple. The latter motif is based on a woodcut by Albrecht Dürer. The reliefs probably stem from the wing inside an altar. The overall sequence could have encompassed a total of eight scenes, concluding with the Coronation of the Virgin.
