About the object
For most miniatures, the painters made a preliminary drawing on paper in watercolours of the given model. The actual portrait miniature was then painted in the workshop minus the sitter. This animated study of a man was painted by the well-known miniature painter, Ferdinand Freiherr von Lütgendorff (1785-1858).
