Half-length Portrait of a Girl, 1750 - 1800

About the object

Until the nineteenth century, children were seen as small adults and clothed in similar fashion. Accordingly, this toddler is dressed up for her representative portrait. She is sitting bolt upright on a chair, probably forced into a corset. A bouquet of flowers has been added for decorative purposes.
