About the object
István Széchenyi (1791-1860) was a Hungarian count, state reformer and entrepreneur. In his socially-critical writings, he advocated, among other things, the cessation of the feudal system in Hungary in order to promote economic growth in the country. He is wearing the 'Pour le Mérite' Order of Merit around his neck.
