About the object
Wendelin Moosbrugger (1760-1849) took up permanent residence in Constance from 1795 and was appointed court painter in Stuttgart under King Frederick I of Württemberg in 1810. This self-portrait depicts him at the age of about forty-eight. On the reverse of the portrait medallion there is a portrait of his second wife, Anna Maria Moosbrugger, née Hüetlin (1774-1829).
