Breverl
Protective amulet “Breverl”, Ende 18. Jahrhundert
About the object
A »breverl« or »briefs« in English is a religious statement of protection (a rubric) that one would carry about one's person. These amulets are sacraments of everyday life that promise the respective owner protection against manifold dangers. The Catholic Church recommended wearing protective amulets filled with »benedicta« (blessings) as early as the 17th century.
