About the object
The altar cross comprises 15 sections of engraved crystal. It was donated - together with four candlesticks, of which only these two remain - by the widow of a Freiburg lapidary for the decoration of the high altar in the Freiburg Minster. This is evident from the inscriptions on the four plaques on the base of the cross.
