Cross
Standing cross, um 1600
About the object
This is a special type of crucifix. The individual crystals - a truncated pyramid-shaped base, conical shaft, beam-like cross members with trefoil ends and a square centrepiece - have not been drilled, as in the case of the other rock crystal artefacts exhibited here. The gold-plated fasteners are the only things holding the structure together. This type of cross was presumably originated in Italy.
